A report by the United Nations Development Programme and the Oxford Initiative on Poverty and Human Development showed an increase of about 51.5 million people suffering from multidimensional poverty, bringing the total to nearly 1.2 billion.
This represents the first increase since the indicator was first measured in 2010. The forms of deprivation include hunger, lack of education, and poor access to clean water and electricity, while data trends show that 33 out of 89 countries managed to reduce the index value by half in less than 15 years.
