Saudi Saad bin Sulaib Al-Otaibi elected Arab Parliament president by acclamation

Cairo - October 24, 2026

Saudi Arabia's candidate, member of the Consultative Council Professor Saad bin Saleeb bin Muteer Al-Otibi, won the chairmanship of the Arab Parliament by consensus during the procedural session held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, marking the start of the third session of the fourth legislative term of the Parliament.

The election of Al-Otibi followed his sole candidacy for the position without any competitors, succeeding Emirati Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Yamahi, who has chaired the Arab Parliament since October 2024.

The session included procedures for electing the chairman of the Parliament and his four deputies, as well as the chairs and deputies of the permanent committees, to complete the formation of the leadership bodies of the Parliament.

Al-Otibi emphasized in his speech after his election the importance of enhancing the joint Arab work and unifying positions on regional and international issues, stressing the continuation of support for the Palestinian cause, and improving the institutional performance of the Arab Parliament and enhancing its role in serving the interests of Arab countries and peoples.

Al-Otibi has experience in parliamentary work, having previously held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament, in addition to his membership in the Saudi Consultative Council and participation in several parliamentary committees.
